Welcoming Mintdale Engineering – a fourth-generation success story – to the Made in Group family
We’re delighted to announce that Mintdale Engineering has joined the Made in Group, straddling both Made in Yorkshire and Made in the Midlands thanks to its unique position on the north side of Chesterfield (and proudly holding a Sheffield postcode). Their arrival not only strengthens our precision-engineering offer, but also adds another brilliant family-run manufacturer to our growing community.
A proud family heritage, powered by modern thinking
Run by husband-and-wife team Julie and Jason Toyne, Mintdale traces its roots back four generations to 1976. For nearly 50 years they’ve moved with the times, continuously reinvesting in the very latest kit: 9-axis turning centres with sub-spindles and live tooling for true one-hit machining, plus machining centres with rotary axes that make light work of complex geometries. The result? High-quality CNC turning, milling, mill/turn, induction brazing, clean assembly and more – all delivered to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
Flying the flag for UK supply chains
In an age of globalised sourcing, Mintdale has taken the deliberate decision to keep every one of its suppliers here in the UK. That local focus not only shortens lead-times and reduces carbon, but also supports skilled jobs across our regions. Whether it’s a bespoke one-off or a competitive high-volume part, the team’s pride in their work ethic shines through – a reflection of the company’s commitment to customers, suppliers and staff alike.
Investing in people as much as plant
Julie and Jason describe innovation as “key to gaining and keeping new clients”, and that attitude extends beyond technology. From encouraging creative problem-solving on the shop floor (“much head-scratching leads to solutions”) to nurturing staff development, Mintdale lives its values every day. It’s precisely this forward-thinking culture that’s kept the business at the sharp end of precision engineering for nearly half a century.
Why the Made in Group?
“Any opportunity to showcase our business and gain potential new customers and suppliers is always at the forefront of our plan,” Julie explains. By joining both Made in Yorkshire and Made in the Midlands, Mintdale can connect with like-minded manufacturers on either side of the county line, rising to the challenges of ever-changing markets and products. They’re open to collaborating with fellow members on everything from plating, welding and polishing to niche outside-processing services – so if you can help, they’d love to hear from you.
What this means for the network
Mintdale’s twin passions for technological excellence and family values dovetail perfectly with the Made in Group ethos. Their presence boosts our collective capability in high-precision machining, while their commitment to all-UK supply chains reinforces our shared mission to champion Britain’s makers. We’re excited to introduce them to the diverse opportunities our community offers.
Please join us in giving Julie, Jason and the entire Mintdale Engineering team a warm Made in Group welcome. Whether you’re looking for a new machining partner, a reliable sub-contractor, or simply a fellow family firm to swap insights with over a coffee, make sure you say hello!
